Timothy Lloyd "Tim" Bishop (born April 5, 1976), better known online as NintendoCapriSun or NCS for short, is an American YouTuber, Let's Player and Twitch Streamer who has made online content since 2007, and is well known for his friendliness and his scatological humor. Tim made comprehensive walkthrough Let's Plays on various video games, including titles from the Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, Banjo-Kazooie, Mega Man, Metroid, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Plants vs. Zombies and Ace Attorney video game franchises. As of 2016, he streams regularly on Twitch, usually on Tuesdays and Fridays. Tim has over 400 thousand subscribers and 369 million views as of 2024.
Tim has been making Let's Plays on his main channel since 2007, and became a YouTube Partner in 2010. He is known for his unique style of commentary that includes a variety of humor, including strange remarks, burps, farts. Having produced Let's Plays primarily for Nintendo games, Tim has made Let's Plays of games from The Legend of Zelda series and the Mario franchise. He has also done multiple non-Nintendo Let's Plays, such as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Banjo-Kazooie, Shadow of the Colossus, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, and Plants vs. Zombies. Before and during his Let's Play career, Tim has filmed hundreds of vlogs and other miscellaneous videos that have been posted on his first YouTube channel JealousGuy, and on it's replacement channel BreakingNCS. He has 28 years of experience recording his personal video logs. Tim has 32.3K followers on Twitch.
Alongside his own Let's Plays, Tim is also a founding member of The Runaway Guys collaborative Let's Play YouTube channel, along with Jonathan Wheeler (Proton Jon) and Emile Rosales (Chuggaaconroy), who have produced 47 main collab LPs, along with five side collab LPs and six tournament LPs, and have 480 thousand subscribers and 421 total video views as of 2024. In 2012, the group established a video game trivia and challenge show that would go on to become Thrown Controllers, which has grown into a hugely popular show, appearing in the United States and Canada at several conventions. Since 2018, The Runaway Guys Colosseum has been live streamed as a weekend long event to raise money for Direct Relief, which has raised over $1,000,000.
Early life[]
Timothy Bishop was born on April 5, 1976 in Ishpeming, a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Soon after he was born, his parents moved to Jacksonville, Florida. His sister Mary was born in 1981. In 1983, his parents got him his first computer, a Mattel Aquarius. Soon after, the Aquarius was sold and replaced with a Radioshack TRS-80 Color Computer. When the Nintendo Entertainment System was new, Tim's father got him one. After his father bought the NES, he told him to not let video games come between him and god. Both of Tim's parents were religious, and this would shape his character for the rest of his life. When he was in elementary school, he met Chris Long, and Brian Tutt. They were often rude and in some cases mildly abusive. In 1988 his family moved to the state of Georgia because his father got promoted to a production manager at a Toyota plant. He has stated that his earliest memory is of himself playing with a toy truck outside in snow and trying to shake out a penny that fell into it.
In 1990, Tim's parents divorced. This was an awkward time for his family, not only because of the divorce, but because it was the beginning of a long stretch of time where Tim and his father would grow apart. Tim's father got custody of him and his sister, Mary. Tim's mother was going through a particularly hard time adjusting to the separation, because she suddenly had to start working. At around this time, she met her second husband, Steve. He is one of the only people to whom Tim has directly called out on their nonsense. Tim's father pushed for him and his sister to get more exercise, and eventually leading to Mary joining her school's basketball team. Utilizing this newfound time home alone, Tim recorded his first audio diary on January 27th, 1992. He was inspired by a scene at the end of Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Recording diaries on audio and video would go on to become a lifelong obsession of his.
Tim graduated from Commerce High School on June 6th, 1994 with straight A's. He considers this to be one of the happiest times in his life because for two years prior to graduation, he was the Georgia State Typing Champion. Also, for his 18th birthday, his dad bought Secret of Mana, which would become Tim's all time favorite video game. After high school, he had a very hard time finding employment. His father made it clear that he thought Tim should go to college, but at the time he was very opposed to the idea due to the possibility of debt. In October of 1994, Tim began to become angry at the fact that he still did not have a job, despite his efforts. Because of his desperation for money, he began to take walks to his high school late at night and take cans back to his house. One night however, his family thought he was missing, and called the police. Over time, Tim did manage to scrape enough money together to be able to afford Final Fantasy VI, which he was looking forward to playing, but he told himself not to play it until he got a job. Tim ended up giving in however, and bought and played the game. To this day he still feels guilty when he hears the game's music. In the summer of 1995, a small conflict arose between Tim and his sister regarding creative direction of fictional characters the two of them created. They are called The Waterhands. Tim was also depressed because it had been roughly a year since he graduated high school and he still could not get even a minimum-wage job.
Steve's father offered Tim a job at a Golden Pantry convenience store in September of 1995. November 4th, 1995 was the first day he ever worked. At the job's orientation, Tim fell in love at first sight with a woman named Crystal Davis. A month later, she had to quit her job because she got into a car accident with a drunk driver. He saw her once after that when she came to collect her final check, but Tim panicked and did not know what to say to her. About a year later, Tim began thinking about her a lot and started to try to find her through phone books, and Golden Pantry employee records. Tim eventually found a phone number with someone on the other end who said they could get a letter to her, and he began writing to her. 1996 and 1997 are considered by Tim to be a very boring time, as he spent a lot of time wishing Crystal Davis would come back into his life. Over time, he started thinking about Davis less in part because of his sister's new group of friends that he liked to spend time with. One of those friends was a girl named Beverly, whom he developed some romantic feelings for. He wrote her a letter offering her a safe place away from the abuse she faced at home. One day at Golden Pantry, a girl came in and claimed to be Tim's girlfriend. He asked a co-worker named Jorem who it was, but because Tim was so shy, and English was not Jorem's first language, he could not manage to get her description.
Two guys named Chris and Brian joined the group that Beverly was in. Tim had lots of fun with them, as he finally had a group of friends who liked the same kinds of music he did, and enjoyed lip-syncing to music on video. They almost started a band which would have been called Flatline, and had one song called Angry. It did not end up going anywhere because Chris did not reciprocate romantic feelings from Beverly. It was with Beverly that Tim smoked his first cigarette. Tim got promoted to Deli Manager at another Golden Pantry at this time. In June of 1998, he got WebTV. This was Tim and his friends' first exposure to the internet. He met a girl from Iowa whom he refers to as Rain while playing an online trivia game on the chat program Talk City. She Claimed to work long hours in a hospital and have cancer. Tim, Chris, and Brian had plans to possibly move in together, but there were too many lifestyle disagreements. The one big problem about life at that time for Tim was that his mother's marriage with Steve was not going well, which resulted in her moving away from him. Tim's father offered to take in him and his sister. Since Tim's father was living in Wisconsin with his sister, Lorrenda, this meant that Tim and Mary would be moving across the country. They left Georgia on November 13, 1998.
In November of 1998, Tim was officially living in Neenah, Wisconsin. He could not message Rain during the move and after he was settled in, he noticed many unread messages from her that were asking him about where he was. Rain was becoming increasingly clingy and would accuse Tim of flirting with other girls in online chatrooms. In February or March of 1999, Tim discovered that Rain was lying to him about having cancer. Tim cut off contact with her afterwards. Shortly after settling into his new home, he got a job at Pick 'n Save. He would quit the job three months later due to another, albeit, smaller move. At the end of 1999, Tim got hired at Pick 'n Save again, and like the last time, only worked there for three months. He quit this time because his father and his second wife, Debora, wanted him to find a better job. In July of 1999, when Tim was visiting his mother, she gave him his first computer. After his second Pick 'n Save job, Tim went to a Temp Agency to find an office job. He soon found employment at Guardian Insurance for three months. Tim did not get a full-time position there because of his hygiene. The Agency found Tim another job doing inventory for deliveries at a store, which only lasted for a month. In Summer of 2000, Mary's boyfriend Josh, who was working at Moto Mart, offered Tim a job there. He took the job, and enjoyed it (partially because he was allowed to smoke on the job). Tim quit Moto Mart in November of 2000 because he did not want to drive from Neenah to Appleton uninsured on snowy roads to get to work.
Debora was starting to become a nuisance to Tim, as she fell off the wagon, and started asking him for money frequently. She went so far as to steal Mary's car to dump bottles so she wouldn't get caught drinking. She also tried forging Tim's signature on a check in an attempt to take money out of his bank account. Debora lied about the attempted forgery, and even denied doing it when confronted face-to-face by Tim and his father. Tim's father and Debora divorced soon after. At some point in 2000, Tim moved in with Mary and Josh, presumably to get away from Debora.
In January of 2001, Tim got hired at Pick 'n Save for his third time. After three months of stocking shelves, he was promoted to working in the bakery. On April 30th, 2001, he worked his first day in the store's bakery. Mary and Josh broke up at one point that year, and Mary found a new boyfriend, Joe, who would go on to become her husband. In January of 2002, Tim, Mary, and Joe moved from Neenah to a house in Appleton. That same month, Tim got all of his teeth removed because they were causing him immense pain, and to not risk a life-threatening infection. He started wearing dentures in April and wears them to the present day. A little while after the dental procedure, he went back to work at Moto Mart because he recently bought his first car, and because working two jobs would pay off the loan he took out for the procedure faster.
In early 2003, Tim was annoyed that Mary's boyfriend was not putting in much effort to look for a job. He was particularly bothered by this because he did not want to play video games and as a result, distract Joe from his job search more than he already was. This was pushing Tim to want a place of his own to call home. On May 1, 2003, he moved out and was on his own for his first time when he was 26 years old. In August, Mary and Joe moved in with Tim. In November, Joe went to jail, which allowed Tim to be alone in his apartment again for a short while until he came back. For his 28th birthday on April 5, 2004, he flew out to New York to meet a long time online friend, Mike. Mike was gay, and had a crush on Tim, but he did not feel the same way about Mike. Tim met a girl named Jane in New York and held hands with her while walking around one day.
On May 1, 2004, Tim moved to Midlothian, Virginia because he wanted to get away from his frustrating living situation in Wisconsin and so he could live with online friends of his. He regrets doing this because he moved away from a girl he fell in love with named Michelle, and may have had a future with. A month after arriving to Virginia, Tim got a job at Walmart. Mike said he would move in with Tim, but kept pushing the date he would arrive back farther. Tim was also living with an online friend and her boyfriend. Three months after he moved there, they broke up. This left Tim at an awkward position where he could move elsewhere or stay in Virginia.
In December of 2004, Tim moved back to Neenah, Wisconsin. He temporarily settled in his sister's old apartment. He went back to Pick 'n Save for a job. His first day of work there was January 15th, 2005. On April 1, 2005, Tim moved into the apartment that he would soon start his YouTube Career in. In this time, he would go through a phase of playing online MMORPGs such as Kingdom of Loathing, Dead Awaken, and Hobo Wars. He also found out about Lost, which became his favorite show. On April 24, 2006, he created his first YouTube channel JealousGuy.
Career[]
YouTube career[]
Tim in the 2000s
Tim came up with the name NintendoCapriSun when he made a list of nicknames on a piece of notebook paper for himself back in eighth grade. On the list was 2 columns of several names, mostly named with Nintendo, but since then he has lost the list, and the only 2 names he can remember are "Fire-breathing Nintendo 1-up " and of course, "NintendoCapriSun". Others included whatever he saw such as NintendoCar, NintendoFlower, NintendoCupofWater. Tim always thought NintendoCapriSun was the worst name on the list because of how obvious it was that he was looking around the room for a name, but eventually he decided to use it for his YouTube channel. He first made the step to Let's Playing as JealousGuy when he was experimenting with emulators in mid-2007. Then he saw several people do Let's Plays, such as Jonathan Wheeler (Proton Jon) and UltraJayMan, so he had the idea. He had to come up with a name; NintendoCapriSun. On December 27, 2007, Tim began his Let's Play career with a playthrough of Super Mario Bros. 3.
Tim in 2012
Since starting his career in 2007, Tim has become one of the most prolific Let's Players, having done over 200 Let's Plays as of 2024. He has primarily done Let's Plays for Nintendo games, including games from The Legend of Zelda series, and the Super Mario franchise. In July 2010, Tim had his account temporarily suspended under false copyright claims, as did Emile Rosales-Birou (Chuggaaconroy) a few weeks later, and they had their accounts restored a month later. On August 11, 2010, Tim started Final Fantasy X, his first Let's Play of a non-Nintendo console game since Let's Play Dungeons Of Daggorath in July 2008. He has since done multiple non-Nintendo Let's Plays, such as Ace Attorney, Banjo-Kazooie,Shadow of the Colossus, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, and Plants vs. Zombies.

Tim in 2021
Tim achieved the height of his fame with his Plants vs. Zombies Let's Play in 2011, and he has since Let's Played the sequel, Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, as well as the original again but with different methods of playing it (such as the No Sunflower challenge, the Rainbow challenge, and playing the game at 2x speed). Because of the success of his first Plants vs. Zombies Let's Play, YouTube listed him as the "official" Plants vs. Zombies channel for a short time. Tim has over 400 thousand subscribers and 369 million views as of 2024.
To celebrate 15 years on Youtube, Tim raced Super Mario Bros 3 against himself, specifically his "Stupoid Run" from years ago. He spent his time alternately agreeing with, arguing with, laughing at and cringing at his past self, often making the same joke simultaneously or singing along in synch. In his 2022 Mario Kart vlogs, Tim states that he doesn't look back at his videos and streams from 2021 fondly. Physical and mental health issues led to him feeling sick, drained, and generally out of it, and his commentary and gameplay suffered heavily for it as a result.
Tim operates a few other YouTube channels in addition to NintendoCapriSun;
- JealousGuy - This channel predates NintendoCapriSun and was used primarily as a "vlogging" channel for Tim's various rants, experiments and LOST discussions. Tim stopped updating this channel as he was afraid another "strike" could lead to the suspension of his main channel, NintendoCapriSun, which ultimately happened in 2010 when both his main channel and Chuggaaconroy's channel were suspended for false copyright claims.
- BreakingNCS - Tim created this new vlogging channel on June 30, 2010 to start where JealousGuy left off. He frequently posts videos showing all mail and packages from fans he has received for the month. He also posts videos of his trips to various game conventions including PAX and MAG fest. Many other LPers are also shown in specific videos. He has also featured a multi-video special recapping his life: 40 Years in ??? Minutes.
Twitch Streaming career[]
Tim has 32.3K followers on Twitch. He streams when he can and/or feel like it. If he does, it's usually 8pm EST on Tuesday, and 9p EST on Friday. Games Tim has streamed include Paper Mario: The Thousand Year-Door, Super Mario Sunshine and EarthBound. Unlike Proton Jon and MasaeAnela, Tim does not have his own VOD channel, but does have a fanmade one that uploads his Twitch streams with permission.
The Runaway Guys[]
Tim is a founding member of The Runaway Guys, a collab channel with Jon and Tim. Emile was in charge of maintaining the channel, although Jon made posts and comments for the channel as well. For the first two years, updates usually only occurred every Saturday, but this was changed to Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday following an announcement on February 8, 2013. Videos for Mario Party games (starting with the third) and Fortune Street were also posted daily (each board beginning on Saturday and continuing every day until its end).
Their first Let's Play premiered on February 5, 2011. The three of them were originally the only ones participating, but many of their later videos have featured additional players. Since the creation of the channel in 2011, 47 main collab Let's Plays have been produced, along with five side collab Let's Plays and six tournament Let's Plays. Along with their official long-running Let's Plays, they have done one-shot filler Let's Plays (labeled "The Runaway Gaiden"), tournaments featuring multitudes of guest players, and side collab projects that they gradually update and use as filler between regular projects. The second of the main three Runaway Guys, Tim is the quietest and nicest of the three. This usually means Emile and Jon will beat him, though he's not by any means bad at games. In the Mario Parties, Mario Kart 64 and Fortune Street, he played Yoshi. In the New Super Mario Bros.series, he played Luigi. In Kirby's Return to Dream Land, he played King Dedede. In Super Smash Bros, he initially played Yoshi in his match against Emile, then switched to Fox for the remainder of the video. In the Tournament Arc of Super Smash Bros Brawl, he played Diddy Kong. In Mario Power Tennis, he played Yoshi. In the Rayman series, he played a Teensie. In Castle Crashers, he played Green Knight. In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, he played Green Link. In Secret of Mana he played the Sprite. In 100% Orange Juice!, he plays as Suguri.
On occasion at various conventions, the Runaway Guys have their own panel, called Thrown Controllers, a live game show focused on video game trivia and challenges. Jon hosts the show. The event has been broadcast on numerous gaming conventions such as PAX, Magfest and Momocon. In its debut at PAX East 2012, two teams took turns answering questions and playing video game challenges, either against each other, solo, or against members of the audience. At PAX Prime 2012, they retooled the game into a single-person quiz show with challenges, similar to the initial concept except for one person at a time, and this is how it has been done since. Many prizes have been awarded at these panels, ranging from character pins from Fangamer to (as a grand prize) an actual video game console, such as a Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, or Nintendo Switch. In 2018, The Runaway Guys Colosseum / Thrown Controllers Colosseum was live streamed as a weekend long event to raise money for Direct Relief. This was followed up in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. All of them once again in benefit of Direct Relief.
Collaborations and Guest Appearances[]
Tim has collaborated with several other YouTubers. He has also made several guest appearances. Tim and Emile have worked together on 47 Collab Let's Plays as members of The Runaway Guys, and have also participated in various tournaments and other LPs. On September 5th 2013, Emile was the guest star in "Pokémon Sapphire (Blind) Part 56: The Elite Four (feat. Chugga)", the fifty-sixth episode of Tim's LP of Pokémon Sapphire.
On October 15th 2015, Tim was a guest feature on episode 6 of Emile's Pikmin 3 Mission Mode series entitled Pikmin 3 - Mission 3: Thirsty Desert with NintendoCapriSun, where they played the Thirsty Desert stage and got the platinum rank. The end of the video features a message from Emile which thanks Tim for coming over to do the collaboration, and said that Tim showed a lot of skill for a newcomer. Tim replied to the video by saying "Daaang, I remember being pretty surprised that we managed to platinum that! I figured out to build the bridge early, but beyond that, I was just playing it by ear. Thanks again for allowing me to partake in this epic journey!"
Since 2022, Tim and Emile have done reactions to Nintendo Directs which have been uploaded to Tim's channel. These videos contain their reactions to several game announcements including Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Pikmin 4, Super Mario Wonder, the Super Mario RPG remaster and the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remaster. Of these, the reaction to The Thousand-Year Door remaster is perhaps the most notable due to Emile's overjoyed reaction at Mario RPGs not being "fucking shit anymore", referring to his dislike of the modern Paper Mario games (Paper Mario: Sticker Star in particular). Emile uploaded this reaction to his own channel under the title "The Thousand-Year Door Reaction".
Personal life[]
When Let's Playing a game, Tim shares many stories from his childhood and past events. He has shared stories about his jobs, friends, family, and hardships. One of these stories include the making of the well-known "Waterhands", a simple idea made by his sister and himself for the Tribeca Film Festival. Tim mentions his family very often in his videos while telling stories or sometimes v-logging. He most often talks about his parents and his sister Mary. His parents and all of his grandparents have passed away. Tim's sister Mary is probably the most often mentioned in stories. She created the Waterhands with Tim in 1993 and set up their Art Shop in 2013. Tim quit the bakery he used to work at because he found out he could make even more on YouTube than he did at that job. Plus he was super unhappy there just because of how angry everyone was all the time. In 2024 he revealed that he was making about $1300 a month at the bakery.
Tim has 28 years of experience recording his personal video logs. His other hobbies include reading, photography, talking about LOST, karaoke, and drinking Coca Cola. Tim enjoys a wide variety of musical artists including Rush, Green Day, Dave Mathews Band, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. He is also quite an accomplished composer. He has several original compositions that are available to listen to on YouTube through Mario Paint Composer as well as a number of covers also done through Mario Paint Composer.
Tim has diagnosed himself with asperger syndrome as noted from a comment reply by him on a Secret of Mana let's play video. He has also been smoke-free for ten years. He stopped smoking on April 7, 2009. Between 2011 and 2013, Tim lost close to 100lbs.
Friendship with Emile[]

Tim has been housemates with Emile Rosales (Chuggaaconroy) since 2021
Tim and Emile are best friends, and have been housemates in Georgia since 2021. Whenever he visited Emile in the past, TIm typically stayed in a messy spare room where Emile keeps old consoles and other classic stuff. Tim visited Emile for a couple weeks in 2021, because he had just found out that Kirby (his cat) had kidney failure and he thought the cat only had a few weeks left, and he wanted to be there for Emile for that. In the end, Kirby lived almost a whole another year. At the time he moved into Emile's house, Tim was going through some health problems, and when Emile saw what a state Tim was in, he let him live in his house and urged Tim to a clinic and he took him to the gym, which led to Tim's health greatly improving.
During the first four months of 2024, Tim looked out for Emile everyday, made sure he was safe from hurting himself, and overall was a good friend. Tim also handled so many decisions for him when Emile was not well enough to make them for himself, such as cooking for him every day when Emile wasn’t allowed near the knives. Emile thinks he really saved him, and asked for people to please support Tim with all they can.
